Building a Fully-Fledged Media Player in React Native

At Callstack.io, we have been working on the media player for one of our clients on both iOS and Android and decided to do it in React Native. React Native itself doesn’t provide any APIs to control lock screen, bluetooth headphones or music playback thus they all have to be written. In this talk, we will check how all the above can be added to React Native with native modules while still being 100% reusable and easy to maintain.

Mike’s React pedigree is high-quality. He’s a React Native core contributor, author of the popular open-source package (rnpm) which has now been merged into core, he’s spoken at several React and React Native conferences around the globe, and runs a React Native School. In other words, he’s amazing and we’re super lucky to have him!

Architecture for scalable apps – how to build maintainable and testable UI with Storybook

by Peter Kowalczyk (@peter_kow)

I will try to answer the most common question, how to build scalable applications, iterate fast and still develop clean, testable, and maintainable code. How to structure your UI and make sure that your code is not coupled. Design and develop your components outside your app in an isolated environment using Storybook.

We won’t normally host meetups on Monday nights, but we’re making an exception this once to accomodate Mike and Anna’s schedule. Also note the venue change, as we’ll be in the Cook and Chipman Conference room (building 3, floor 1) near the security officers (closest to the flagpole). This room only accommodates 90, so get your RSVP in early to make sure you don’t miss out!
